Of special note was George “Doc Thunder Reed” who was honored with the Career Achievement Award. In a phone interview, Reed commented to the 12volt Central Studios, “I was overwhelmed and surprised. Receiving a special industry reward of this type is a true honor and a highlight of my career in the industry.

Reed’s career in the mobile electronics began in 1971 as a distributor salesman for Houston-based Sterling Electronics. A stint with Craig Electroncs followed before returning to Sterling’s new owner Kent Electronics. Kent launched the Bristol car audio brand and Reed served as the National Sales Manager where he set up a network of reps across the U.S. In 1979 Reed formed the Marketing Pros rep firm. In the ensuing years Reed’s firm has been credited with bringing several new brands to national prominence.

As Reed worked to grow brands with retailers in the territory of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma he began to promote “LOUD.” This activity fostered the growth of sound off competitions in store parking lots and sound off organizations. Reed acquired the nickname “Doc Thunder” as he was spent weekends in dealer’s parking lots.

“I remember seeing George at sound off events. He was a rock star as he rolled in with his Viper and a couple of models. Great to see you receive this industry award George,” stated Mike Van Horn.

Reed’s Marketing Pros rep firm, under the direction of Pete Daley, once again received the Rep Firm of the Year award.
