The 12volt News week-long trip to Vegas was terrific… though somewhat taxing on old bones. From a Monday, January 4th, landing at McCarran Airport until the Monday January 11th departure it was nonstop. Hotel venues across Vegas, along with CES days at the Las Vegas Convention Center, provided the canvas for the week.

Companies in the 12volt arena definitely showed exciting new products centered on in-vehicle connectivity, higher audio quality plus lighting along with marine and power sports products.

“We had amazing press coverage,” stated Pat Lavalle, president and CEO, VOXX International Corp. “We were able to see our customers, government guests and international partners all in one place. CES is the most efficient place in the world to do business.”

Consensus from many indicated overall attendance by the 12volt retailer community was less than previous years. The LVCC North Hall, at one time wall-to-wall 12volt, was maybe 20% 12volt. Automotive giants Ford, Chevrolet, Audi, Dodge, Delphi and VM filled huge booths with extensive vehicle displays and crowd-drawing video presentations. Hotels across Vegas – including the Hard Rock, Orleans, Mirage, Wynn and WestGate were home to dozens of 12volt companies occupying ballrooms and suites.

Of note, the Orleans was home to the elettromedia-usa brands, HushMat, NAV-TV, Mobile Solutions, Compustar and Avidworx. The Hard Rock was home for Rockford Fosgate and Harman presentations. JL Audio rolled out the red carpet for customers in a 32nd floor Fantasy Tower suite at the Palms. The WestGate Hotel drew attendees to see the ORCA brands Focal-Illusion Audio-Mosconi-Gladen plus Clarion and the Maxxsonics lineup of brands.

Brick and mortar retailers by definition must draw consumers into their stores to be successful. By all accounts consumer traffic in many cases has declined from past years. To help reverse that trend there are initiatives in the works from several A-Tier vendors and others to provide assets for 12volt retailers to connect with consumers.
