BENTON, AR (07.24.2013) – The old Benton Municipal Airport in Benton, Arkansas roared to life on Saturday, July 20th. It wasn’t the sound of planes taking off – but the sounds of the 2013 TCA Sound-Off Challenge Tour Finals.

TCA’s Todd Crowder, who organized the multi dealer sound-off tour, commented to 12voltnews.com “When we came up with this idea early this year we could not have imagined holding the series final at this venue. Glisson’s, Music Mart and Arkansas Car Stereo joined TC Audio to develop the TCA Series. The series Finals event is the culmination of our combined efforts to stimulate the car audio business in central Arkansas.”

July 20th dawned with a clear sky and a forecast for temperatures in the high 90’s. “By late morning the old Benton Airport was filled with rows of tents and competitor’s vehicles stretching down taxiways. The competition lanes were active and the temperature was high – just like the SPL scores. In fact, there were 5 SPL world records set from the nearly 50 competitors on site. USACi’s Ralph Randall was on site with the official Term Lab meter and verified the records” Crowder stated.

Ralph Randall stated to 12voltnews.com, “An inspiring event. Todd Crowder is an example of what one dedicated retailer can do once he understands the value of promotion through car audio events. His store was successful not only in the lanes but at the cash register. He created new customers, generated new interest, and used the best tool on the market to grow his customer base while having fun and creating a positive environment the allow people to become exited about cat audio. Todd and the other retailers involved in the TCA series are an shining example of how to do it right and be successful!”

Mike Penny, who covers Oklahoma and Arkansas for Marketing Professionals, was on site. “The TCA Series Finals was a very good event. My hat’s off to all four dealers and Todd. They did a lot to promote the car audio category in central Arkansas. We talked to a good number of people at the event about Soundstream and Focal gear. The day was certainly hot but well worth the trip to Benton” Penny related to 12voltnews.com.

There were a number of contests for spectators that included a watermelon eating contest, woofer toss, radio toss, “most improved” and various “people’s choice” awards plus the very popular frozen T-Shirt contest.. Ed Rice, a competitor from the early ’80’s, picked up the BJ Latting award for his dedication to the sound-off sport. The Latting award honored the memory of the late BJ Latting who, as the owner of Arkansas Car Stereo, was a strong proponent of car audio competitions.

There were a number of unique crowd pleasing vehicles on the airfield grounds including a drag racing car and Scott Funderburk’s “Party Wagon” – a UTV that features 100 speakers. A Rockford Fosgate mini Sound Lab, with Momentum Marketing’s Chuck McLenan and Gary Biggs at the controls, put many spectators through the sound chamber experience.

“All and all we had a great TCA Series Finals. New and old faces were in the crowd. We thank our fellow retailers, vendors and competitors for their invaluable support. Plans are already in the works to expand the series for next year” Crowder concluded.
