Lebanon, TN (03.01.12) – MECA’s 11th Annual Freezefest was held the weekend of February 25th at the James E Ward Ag Center in Lebanon, TN. This event, the first 3X triple point Regional of the year for the south central USA, was the best in the event’s history.
“The weather was unseasonably warm, near 60 degrees, and lots of people showed up to show their rides and cool systems to kick off the season. With 61 vehicles, including 18 in Sound Quality League and 2 MECA Kids, plus strong turn-outs for Sound Pressure League, Show & Shine the show went well with efficient judging and lots to see” MECA Commish Steve Stern reported to 12voltnews.com. Continuing Stern added “We signed up 12 new members, and had as many renewals, which is a good indication that 2012 will be another year of growth for the club and contests. Ten states including AL, GA, KY, MS, OH, NC, PA, SC, TN, and VA were represented.”
Over 70 trophies were awarded following a day of competition. Donovin Gleaton (Team South Side) from Columbus, OH won the big Best of Best of Show trophy with outstanding performance in all SQL and SPL classes.
Johnathan “Peach” Bell from Clarksville, TN won the Show & Shine Best of Show trophy, and his club “Dangerous Addictionz” earned the Club Participation trophy.
Darren Musick (Team BYOB/Incriminator) from Fayetteville, TN won the Park & Pound Best of Show in DB5 with a whalloping 136.2 dB, measured 6′ from the passenger side door.
Jeremy Kough (Team dB Revolution/Sundown) from Bowling Green, KY was the Sound Pressure Best of Show in S4 with a mind-bending 155.4 dB, measured at the headrest.
Erin Hardison (Team DIYMA/MSE/JL) from Decatur, AL won the Sound Quality Best of Show with 79.3 out of 100 points in Modex.
This was a 3X point contest, so the Sound Quality scoring was done by 3 Judges, and averaged.
Selena’s Shoots had 3 models on site who made the most of photo ops with competitors and club members. Miss MECA 2012, Samantha Bolte, made her first official appearance, taking pics with competitors and their vehicles throughout the day.
The annual SQL Judge Training session, conducted in Nashville by Commissioner Steve Stern, is a key element of the annual Freezefest event. Five states were represented on Saturday as trainees spent time at Silvertone Studio listening to instruments and the Chesky Ultimate Demonstration Disc on the “reference system”. Rule Book reviews, practice scoring and attending a live performance by the Nashville Symphony completed a very full day of judges training. Judges were seated in super special 9th row center seats at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville arranged by Stern.
“The Symphony program was the highlight of the training day. Mic Wallace from York, PA expressed it best when he commented – ‘The Symphony was superb and I really enjoyed it. It is definitely at the top of my all time music experiences’.
Judges certified along with Mic were Trina Abee from Asheville, NC, Mike Still from Warrenton, VA, Jonathan Schnepp from Clarksville, TN, and Steve Cook from Florence, AL.
MECA’s next big event is Spring Break Nationals at Daytona Beach, FL the weekend of March 24-25th. The club is building it’s contest schedule and projecting 150+ USA events for the 2012 season.
“There is plenty of time for hosts and sponsors to get in on the fun and great promotional benefits of the club and contests. There are over 100 Retail Member store fronts that participate in the MECA program each year. We are looking forward to 2012 being a banner year” Stern concluded.
